Scope and arrangement
The majority of the correspondence and writings in the Montague Collection of Fulton manuscripts is concerned with Fulton's operation of his steamship company with Robert R. Livingston. Correspondents include Robert R. Livingston, John Stevens, Edward T. Livingston and Benjamin H. Latrobe. In addition to correspondence, the collection includes Fulton's 1812 travel diary of a trip to Washington D.C., and sketches he made, including those illustrating his treatise, "On the Mode of Using Sleeping Torpedoes."
