The Motion Picture Association of America was founded in 1922 and became the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America in 1945. The earlier name was used on the volumes in this collection. Collection contains 31 volumes arranged alphabetically by city listing theaters in an exchange territory and giving statistics on population size, number of theater seats, days open and distributor with whom a contract was signed, as well as a list of theater circuits and addresses of local offices and personnel. One volume is a statistical summary of drive-in theaters across the United States with information on auto capacity, number of months a year and days a week open, program policy (single or double feature), number of program changes per week, and name of management. The information was compiled from questionnaires completed by field representatives of 7 motion picture distributors on the basis of personal interviews with exhibitors and general trade knowledge.
