The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) is the largest union representing the back-stage workers of the entertainment industry. The union was created in 1886.

Biographical/historical information

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) is the largest union representing the back-stage workers of the entertainment industry. The union was created in 1886. Jene Youtt was a member of the union's history committee and helped research the union’s history for the centennial celebration.

Scope and arrangement

The collection contains catalogs; newsletters; trade magazines; photocopies of documents describing the history of the union, including constitution and by-laws; and proceedings of the conventions. Also included are manuals, handbooks, stage screws and wrenches, and information about the union's benefit funds. Three different newsletters describe what happens at local union meetings and throughout the international union.
