John Alexander (1897-1982) was an American actor who was active in theater from 1913 to 1962. Beginning in 1916, he toured with the Robert B. Mantell and Genevieve Hamper theater company. Alexander and Hamper married in 1931. The John Alexander ephemera dates from 1916 to 1982. The collection contains obituaries and short biographies of Alexander, programs for plays he acted in, small ledgers documenting his income and employment between 1931 to 1954, identification cards for theatrical unions and clubs, photographs of Alexander, and photocopies of three letters from Joshua Logan, Bobby Griffith, and Howard Lindsay. The collection also contains programs and promotional postcards for the Mantell-Hamper Company, and two issues of Theatre Magazine (May 1920 and June 1921) with articles about the company
