Isadora Bennett (1900-1980) was a publicist specializing in dance and concert artists. The Isadora Bennett Papers focus on her musical clientele.

Biographical/historical information

Isadora Bennett (1900-1980) was a publicist specializing in the performing arts. Beginning with her work for Martha Graham in the late 1930s, Bennett became associated with modern American dance companies, and the association would last for the rest of her life. She expanded her clientele to encompass other types of artists after entering a partnership with Richard Pleasant in 1948. After his death in 1961, Bennett continued working as a publicist until 1972, when she retired. She received numerous awards for her contribution to the field of dance in America, and occasionally published essays on the subject.

Scope and arrangement

The Isadora Bennett Papers are exclusively concerned with Bennett’s clients from the world of concert music, and do not include material from Bennett’s dance clients. Most of the collection consists of clippings and publicity materials, with a small amount of notes and correspondence. All of the material in the collection is related to individual clients, with no personal papers or general office files. The collection is arranged alphabetically, by client name.
