The collection contains several block prints of composers created by Nathaniel Robin.
Nathaniel Robin, pianist / composer/ painter, was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in 1897. He studied music at Carnegie Tech and then was a private student of Ernst Bloch and Arnold Schoenberg. Except for a period in the thirties, where he was in California (Schoenberg was at UCLA), he worked on his music and painting in New York, living at the Gorham Hotel on 55th Street with a studio at Carnegie Hall. He was the brother of Leo Robin, lyricist. Nathaniel Robin died in August of 1987 in New York City.
The Nathaniel Robin Papers contain the block print portraits of famous musical composers created by Robin and a letter with biographical information sent by Robin's niece, Ann Rower. These prints have been shown in Carnegie Hall and in galleries in New York, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. This collection is arranged alphabetically.
The Nathaniel Robin Papers were donated to the Music Division in April 1988 by Robin's niece, Ann Rower.
