Benedikt Fred Dolbin (1883-1971) was a graphic artist from Vienna, Austria who emigrated to New York City during the Nazi era of the 1930s. While in Austria, he had studied music composition with Arnold Schoenberg. He specialized in caricatures of artistic figures. He died in Jackson Heights, New York. The collection contains 181 sketches and prints created by Benedikt Fred Dolbin of various dancers, actors, musicians, composers, choreographers, playrights, and authors. The majority of the items are pencil sketches. Included are series of sketches documenting particular performances, such as that of Jerome Robbins' The Cage, Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, Murder in the Cathedral, and On Borrowed Time.
