Scope and arrangement
The Philip Van Cortlandt ledgers consist of four volumes that date from 1725 to 1800. The ledgers detail the business dealings of the Van Cortlandts in New Jersey.
'Ledger A,' which dates from 1752 to 1760, was kept at Second River (later, Belleville), New Jersey, and in east New Jersey.
The other three ledgers were kept at Second River, one dating from 1756 to 1758, a second from 1758 to 1763, and a third from 1765 to 1803.
