Includes the following mss note: "This is the rarest of all Josiah Tucker's writings, only a few copies being printed 'as mss.' for circulation and correction by personal friends of the author. . . This copy was sent by him to Dr. Secker, archbishop of Canterbury, and is full of both his and the author's mss. notes. . . As originally printed the work was entitled 'The elements of commerce, the theory of taxes' but in this copy Tucker has altered it to'The moral and political theory of trade and taxes.' It relates largely to the South Sea, African and Hudson Bay Companies as well as to American trade. It was printed in 1755 and never reprinted." Ms. note, signed: P.L.F. [Paul Leicester Ford]
