John Smyth (1567-1640), from Nibley in Gloucestershire, England, was one of the original promoters of plantations and settlements in the second Virginia colony in North America. He was the author of "Lives of the Berkeleys". Collection consists of letters and documents relating to the settlement of Virginia from 1609 to 1622, collected by John Smyth.
