Scope and arrangement
The collection consists of correspondence 1897-1945; n. d. both incoming and outgoing mainly to Phillips and the majority of correspondents are literary figures e. g. writers, poets and individuals involved with theatres and movies. Many concern publications of their manuscripts with Phillips as associate editor of magazines e. g. Metropolitan Magazine. A few regard Phillips attempts to have his manuscripts accepted by magazines and theatres. Among his correspondents are Walter Lynwood Fleming S. W. Ferguson, Emmett c. king Harris Merton Lyon, Helen Varick Boswell, Richardson Wright, George Ethelbert Walsh, Edward Mott Wooley and Howard F Randolph. The remaining part of the collection are writings: Poems, a few by writers and Photographs of Maibelle H. Justice, Katherine Kavanaugh and Joseph Franklin Poland.
