Society sponsors exhibitions, conducts technical and historical research, participates in international medal expositions, and awards prizes. Collection consists chiefly of letters to William Herbert as secretary of the society, from sculptors, architects, officials of art organizations, and others, relating to the affairs of the society, including exhibitions, meetings, election of new members, adoption of new constitution, and the formation of the McKinley Memorial Award jury. Correspondents include Gutzon Borglum, Richard Rogers Bowker, H.K. Bush-Brown, Daniel Chester French, John La Farge, and Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
