Scope and arrangement
The records consist of approximately 400 case files and 17,000 file cards. The case files originated in the Committee's Manhattan office (although the cases are not limited to that borough), and they contain applications, memos, and correspondence on each case. These case files are arranged in reference number order (#14-3383). The bulk of the file cards consist of those kept by the central office (covering all five boroughs) and those handled by the Manhattan office. Neither set is complete. It appears that a card containing basic information was made out for each individual who sought the Committee's assistance. The cards are arranged in several series, the significance of which is not clear.
