The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society was founded in 1869 to collect and disseminate information on the history and genealogy of American families. The small amount of records in this collection consist chiefly of letters written to the Society in 1901. Most are addressed to Society's secretary, Hiram Calkins, Jr. or treasurer Henry P. Gibson. Many concern membership in the NYG&B, subscriptions to or purchases of its publications. Some replies from Calkins are also present. There are accounting records and insurance policies, 1900-1901 as well as a postcard to and accounts kept by treasurer George H. Butler, 1884-1886
