Diary kept by Maj. John Hendrickson (later, maj.-gen.), January 1-December 12, 1862 while on campaign with the 83rd New York Voluntary Infantry, 9th New York Militia, in the Shenandoah Valley. Hendrickson took part in the 2nd Battle of Bull Run and in the Battle of South Mountain
