Scope and arrangement
The Anne Mitcheltree papers document the personal life and career of the New York City dance professional. The collection contains personal correspondence, writings and articles related to dance therapy, press clippings, and photographs.
The correspondence is made up of items from dance instructor and mentor, Virginia Tanner; dancer and special education teacher, Anne Riordan; Cornelius L. Reid, a renowned New York City vocal pedagogue; choreographer-dancer, Maja Lorkovic; Robin Chmelar, dancer and author; and communications with the Rockefeller Archive Center. Photographs include portraits of Mitcheltree and images of dancers. Press clippings consist of performance reviews and obituaries. The Research Files contain Mitcheltree's writings on dance therapy created for her masters degree, internships, and symposia; as well as articles, subject files, and personal files (some containing letters with colleagues) that informed her dance therapy practice, scholarship, and performances. These files cover therapy for mental illness; physical, developmental, and emotional therapy; and other therapeutic uses for dance.
