English poet known as "Mr. Mott of Cambridge." He published several poems in London literary magazines in the last years of the eighteenth century, and is mentioned by Robert Southey in a 1799 letter as an acquaintance of George Dyer (Life and Correspondence [1849-50], v. 2 p. 15). To George Dyer, author and advocate of political reform : 1 autograph letter signed : 3 Dec 1796 : (MISC 3616k) : from Camb[ridge] : begins, "I rec'd your Letter this morning & sho.d have been happy to see you at Camb. upon any terms - but that my business presses so hard upon me, I have have not a moment's relaxation. I shall lay my poems aside for the present ...".
