John Fitzgibbon, 2nd Earl of Clare, British politician. Lord Clare was a close friend of the poet Lord Byron, who said of him, "I have always loved him better than any male thing in the world." He served as the Governor of Bombay from 1831-1835. To Joseph Planta, diplomat and politician : 1 autograph letter signed : 22 Feb [1845?] : (B'ANA 0585) : about a communication with John O'Connell, Irish politician and son of Daniel O'Connell, a.k.a. "the Liberator", who was imprisoned with his father at the time.
