Scope and arrangement
Thirteen manuscript letters addressed to William Jerdan, spanning a wide range of subjects and more than 60 years. Early correspondence includes a letter of reference attesting to his aptitude for journalism; later letters address editorial matters, meeting arrangements, and more. Also included is a letter to "Miss Jerdan," a daughter of William Jerdan's; two poems unassociated with letters: the anonymous "Life -- Farce!" and "A Seasonable Song," by Captain Richard Johns; as well as the text of Charles Swain's "Hymn to the Cross," which follows his 1837 note to Jerdan.
