The collection contains non-commercial recordings of live and recorded performances and interviews of Jan Peerce spanning the years 1938-1983. The collection also features performers such as: singers Zinka Milanov, Roberta Peters, Leonard Warren, Cesare Siepi, Robert Merrill, Lawrence Tibbett, Virginia Raye and Viola Philo ; conductors Arturo Toscanini, Fausto Cleva, Harry Horlick and David Rubinoff ; and interviewers Ed Sullivan, Johnny Carson and Mike Douglas. Radio and television (audio only) programs included are: The A & P Gypsies, Radio City Music Hall On the Air, Carnegie Hall, The Chevrolet Hour, The Ed Sullivan Show, The Mike Douglas Show, and The Tonight Show. Works featured are selections from operas such as "La boheme," "I pagliacci," "Don Giovanni," "Cavalleria Rusticana," "La traviata," "Lucia di Lammermoor" and "Rigoletto" ; musicals such as "Fiddler on the Roof" ; and songs by Handel and Schubert, among others. less

The collection consists of noncommercial recordings primarily of opera performances from 1936 to 1981 by major American and European houses, collected and in many cases recorded by Richard McGuinn. Opera houses represented include the Bayreuth Festival, Covent Garden, La Scala, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Metropolitan Opera, Salzburg Festival, San Francisco Opera, and the Vienna State Opera. Broadcasting organization of the United States government founded in 1941 as a division of the Office of War Information. The Voice of America recorded radio programs from commercial radio stations in the United States and rebroadcast them in Europe. The collection contains a wide variety of musical programs prepared for rebroadcast over Voice of America stations. Included in the Archives' holdings are: various Bing Crosby shows (including Kraft Music Hall, Chesterfield, and Philco Radio time), Ford Evening Hour, and Harvest of Stars radio programs. Also included are performances of various symphony orchestras including: the Boston Symphony, New York Philharmonic, NBC Symphony, and Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as recordings of the American Music Festival and the Festival of the American Music. less

The Armed Forces Radio Service collection of broadcast recordings consists of electrical transcription discs that the AFRS distributed for broadcast. The substantial portion of the collection consists of concert recordings of the Boston Symphony, NBC Symphony, New York Philharmonic, and other groups, from 1943 through 1945.
