The Robert Benney drawings are black and white sketches in graphite and ink primarily of actors and actresses in costume for New York City theater productions. The drawings also include sketches of entire scenes and portraits of musicians, radio personalities, comedians, dancers and film stars. There are some photocopies in the collection; most duplicate the Library's holdings of originals. less

This collection includes photographs and prints of actors and actresses from the late 19th and early 20th century, especially those associated with Shakespearean theatre in New York City. The images were primarily collected by professor Randolph Somerville and most images are signed. Among the most prominent figures represented are Viola Allen, Henrietta Crosman, Walter Hampden, Lyn Harding, Adelaide Neilson, Julia Marlowe Southern, Helena Modjeska, Ada Rehan, E. H. Southern, and Herbert Beerbohm Tree. less

Consists of 8 large (24 x 20 in.) and 23 (11 x 14 in.) portraits of the following actors: Jean Louis Barrault, Richard Burton, Vittorio Gassman, Sir John Gielgud, Ben Kingsley, Sir Laurence Olivier, Maximilian Schell and Nicol Williamson, all of whom played Hamlet. Also contains smaller photographs, slides and negatives of these men and of Trevor Nunn, Mandy Patinkin, Roger Rees and Innokentiĭ Smoktunovskiĭ as well as of Hamlet memorabilia. less
