Marjorie Gamso (1944-2011) was a choreographer, dancer, and founder of The Energy Crisis dance group. Gamso took dance classes at the 92nd Street Y, earned a B.A. in anthropology from Columbia University (1968), and presented her first dance, "Octopus City" to the public at the University of Southern California in 1970. She studied ballet with Carmelita Maracci and James Waring, and studied modern dance with Merce Cunningham. The Marjorie Gamso collection (1969-2015) primarily documents her career in New York City from 1971 until her death. The collection contains announcements; programs; press releases; notes; letters to Ellen Kastel, Sally Bowden, and Kenneth King; research material; unfinished projects and proposals; writings elucidating her work and creative process; and scripts. Some items were annotated by Gamso's collaborators (including Mary Jane Leach and Bowden) following her death. less

Gus Solomons Jr. is an African-American dancer, choreographer, teacher, and writer. Solomons was a soloist in the dance companies of Donald McKayle, Pearl Lang, Martha Graham and, most notably, Merce Cunningham. Solomons formed his own troupe, The Solomons Company/Dance in 1972. Twenty-four years later in 1996, Solomons founded Paradigm to celebrate mature artists on stage. Jamake Highwater (born circa. 1930) was the director and choreographer for the San Francisco Contemporary Dancers from 1954 to 1967, and a rock music journalist and travel writer from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s. From 1975 on, he was been primarily a lecturer and an author of fiction and non-fiction, dealing mostly with American Indian arts and culture, and with myth and ritual in general. Based in New York from 1967 until the mid-1980s, Highwater moved to Los Angeles in 1992 and died in 2001.The papers include writings by Highwater in published and typescript form, correspondence, photographs, slides, audio tapes, and films and videos, mostly pertaining to Highwater's work in modern dance and as a writer and public speaker. less
