The International Committee for Political Prisoners was founded in 1924 to to agitate for the release and raise funds for the relief of political prisoners throughout the world. The ICPP dissolved in 1942 once the advent of World War II made assistance to political prisoners nearly impossible. The records consist of correspondence, memoranda, minutes, typescripts, financial statements, and supporting printed matter. less

The American Friends of Spanish Democracy (originally called Friends of Spanish Democracy) was founded in New York City in 1936 by a group of clergymen and intellectuals under the leadership of Roger Baldwin, a member of the executive committee, and Bishop Robert L. Paddock, the chairman. The objective of the organization was to arouse support for the Loyalist government during the Spanish Civil War. The records consist of correspondence, publicity files and printed matter relating to the American Friends of Spanish Democracy. General correspondence concerns fundraising, enlistment of support for the Loyalist cause, attempts to organize a delegation of prominent Americans to visit Spain, and the revision of American policy toward Spain. Correspondence includes file of minutes of executive committee meetings. Bombings protest correspondence is with clergymen and concerns the endorsement of protests against the bombings of civilian populations. Neutrality correspondence contains copies of letters protesting the arms embargo imposed on Spain under the Neutrality Acts. Publicity files include press releases, form letters, clippings, and printed matter created or collected by the American Friends of Spanish Democracy. less

Bolton Hall (1854-1938) was an American lawyer and author. He prepared the expurgated text of the King James version of the Bible (called The Living Bible) in addition to writing and speaking on topics such as social reform and political economy. He was a founder of the Longshoremen's Union and the New York Tax Reform Association, was a disciple of Henry George, and an advocate of the single tax and model tenement housing. Collection contains Hall's writings, correspondence, personal papers, and scrapbooks. Papers consist primarily of his writings, both fiction and non-fiction, on various subjects and include typescripts, galley proofs, articles, and speeches. Holger Cahill (born Sveinn Kristjan Bjarnarson in Iceland) was an American novelist, curator of important art exhibitions at the Newark Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, folklorist, and national director of the Federal Arts Project, 1935-1943. The papers chiefly document Cahill's career as a novelist during the 1940s and 1950s. They consist of general correspondence with writers, artists, publishers and others. There is also family correspondence, 1907-1983, between Cahill and his sister Anna Johnson, his mother Vigdis Bjarnsdottir, and his second wife Dorothy Canning Miller, who was a long-time colleague at the Museum of Modern Art. In this series there is also correspondence of extraordinary interest between Anna Johnson and Dorothy Canning Miller which contains information about Cahill's birth, name and age, which is fundamentally different from the official biography. Also included are manuscript drafts of his novels, short stories, and articles; story ideas and notes; research notes; poetry and playscripts; writings by others, including Josephine Herbst and Robert A. Andrews; photographs of Cahill, members of his family and friends; and biographical material, interviews, miscellaneous clippings, and some annotated books and magazines. less
