The Sigrid Astrom collection of ephemera (1930-1938) primarily contains clippings on the theater and film careers of actors Lynn Fontanne, Alfred Lunt, and Walter Huston. There are also clippings about set designer and director Robert Edmond Jones and his work with the Central City Opera House in Colorado. Many of the clippings are in scrapbooks. The collection includes scrapbooks on The Guardsman, Elizabeth the Queen, and Reunion in Vienna, all starring Lunt and Fontanne, and Dodsworth, starring Huston. The Reunion in Vienna scrapbook includes a promotional booklet and a small amount of clippings concerning the film adaptation of the play. The collection also contains transcripts of 1935 radio interviews with Jones, Huston, and Nan Sunderland. less

The bulk of the material spans 1926 to 1947, and consists of photographs, and clippings of Benney's work depicting New York stage performers in their roles. Many photographs and clippings depict entire stage scenes, and, in addition to stage actors, there are photographs and clippings of musicians, dancers, comics, and radio personalities, and a small number of items relating to films of the period. less

The Robert Benney drawings are black and white sketches in graphite and ink primarily of actors and actresses in costume for New York City theater productions. The drawings also include sketches of entire scenes and portraits of musicians, radio personalities, comedians, dancers and film stars. There are some photocopies in the collection; most duplicate the Library's holdings of originals. less

The papers of Montgomery Clift consist of a small amount of correspondence, scripts, photographs, notes and scrapbooks. The strength of the collection is in the large number of annotated scripts which range from early drafts to final scripts. The annotations provide insight both to Clift's involvement in the development of the films and plays and the characters he portrayed. Some plays included are : THE SEA GULL (1954), THERE SHALL BE NO NIGHT (1940), YOU TOUCHED ME (1945) and YR. OBEDIENT HUSBAND (1938). Films include: THE BIG LIFT (1950), THE DEFECTOR (1966), FREUD (1962), FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (1953), JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG (1961), THE MISFITS (1961), A PLACE IN THE SUN (1951), RAINTREE COUNTY (1957), THE SEARCH (1948), SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER (1959), WILD RIVER (1960) and THE YOUNG LIONS (1958), among others. Each half-hour episode of the program presented the highlights of one musical. Gordon MacRae was the host and leading man for each episode; his leading ladies came from radio and the Metropolitan Opera. less
