The writings include: a holograph story, "The Brithday," and a number of holograph poems. The bulk of the correspondence is dated 1828-1845. Correspondents include: Elizabeth Inchbald, the writer and actress; James Montgomery, the hymn writer and poet; Jane Porter, the novelist; Robert Southey, the poet, and over thirty others. The artwork consists of over one hundred thirty pencil portraits of friends and relatives, most of whom remain unidentified. less

Holograph poem, "The Felon," signed : [ca. 1800?] : (B'ANA 0641) : 1 p.; begins, "Oh! mark his wan and hollow cheeks! & mark his eye-balls glare! / & mark his teeth in anguish clenched, the anguish of despair!" Nearly a fair copy, save two minor emendations in the second line of the second stanza. Another known mansucript of "The Felon" is dated 1800 (cf. D. L. Macdonald's Monk Lewis, p. 239). less

The Samuel Taylor Coleridge manuscript material in the Pforzheimer Collection consists of 20 pieces of writings and 26 pieces of correspondence. The writings include: a holograph corrected proof of his "Sonnet 8: To the Author of the 'Robbers'" ; fifteen holograph poems (only six of which were published during Coleridge's lifetime) ; two poems by William Lisle Bowles and one poem by Robert Southey, each copied out in Coleridge's hand ; a presentation inscription ; and a legal document with his signature. The bulk of the correspondence is dated between 1792 and 1794 and discusses both his professional and personal lives, most of which is published in the Collected Letters edited by E. L. Griggs.
