Ben Pesner is a writer and digital content producer for the Broadway League, a national trade association for the Broadway industry. Until 2007, the Broadway League was known as the League of American Theatres. The Ben Pesner collection on the League of American Theatres dates from 1988 to 2006 and contains teaching and study guides; souvenir brochures and programs; press kits; and promotional photographs and slides relating to plays and musicals appearing on Broadway. The guides—for shows such as Ragtime, Jekyll & Hyde, Jane Eyre, Sunset Boulevard, and The Diary of Anne Frank— are the result of the work of Pesner and the League to promote Broadway plays and musicals, and make them accessible to a wide range of audiences. Many guides were written or edited by Pesner, whereas press kits, promotional photographs, and slides were submitted to the League by press agents. Randall B. Smith (1916-1989) was a veteran of the International Brigades who fought in the Spanish Civil War, and an active member of the Veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. Collection consists of materials relating to the Spanish Civil War and the Veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. Seventy-three audiotapes (ca. 1975-1985), include interviews with veterans, radio programs, conferences and classes and document experiences of Americans and Canadians in the Spanish Civil War. They provide information on the involvement of veterans in a number of organizations and movements, including the U.S. Office of Strategic Services, the Communist Party, the Vietnam anti-war movement, and protests against U.S. policies in Central America. Karla Jay is a lesbian feminist activist, author, and former professor of English at Pace University (New York). The collection contains correspondence, typescripts, and other items chiefly documenting Jay's work as a professor of English and as author and coeditor of books on the experiences of lesbians and gay men. The bulk of the collection pertains to her work as a writer and academic and includes some documentation of her activities as a pioneer feminist and lesbian activist with the consciousness raising group Redstockings and the Gay Liberation Front. The correspondence includes letters from many prominent writers and gay and lesbian rights activists, her literary agent, publishers, contributors to her anthologies, and alternative presses, as well as with academic and professional organizations. The collection also includes typescript drafts of the text of The Gay Report (which she co-authored with Allen Young) and the questionnaires returned by lesbian respondents; drafts of Jay's dissertation and other writings; slides; and audio recordings, chiefly of interviews with Jay or conducted by her from the 1970s to the 1990s. Regina Kellerman (1923-2009) was an architectural historian who served as an early director of research for the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission, and later become the founder and first director of the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation. Her pioneering research, both in New York and the Netherlands, led to her correctly identifying the location of New York City's first City Hall, a conclusion borne out by the subsequent excavation of the site during the early 1970s. The collection covers Kellerman's career as an architectural historian and preservationist and includes correspondence, reports and notes, architectural drawings and plans, and photographs and slides which she generated and gathered in the course of her investigation of buildings, sites and neighborhoods located in New York City and the surrounding area. less

Nicholas N. Martinovich (1883-1954) was a Russian-born authority on Ottoman and Turkish art. He served in the Russian diplomatic service in the Near East and taught Oriental languages at the University of Petrograd. In 1922 he emigrated to the U.S. where he prepared descriptions of manuscripts and art objects for various museums. He wrote books and articles, lectured and taught courses at Columbia University in New York City. Collection consists of biographical sketch; corrrespondence, 1935-1951; and manuscripts of Martinovich's monographs "Battal and Danishmend" (a Turkish legendary work) and on Mihri Khatun, a Turkish poetess of the 15th century. Also, a transcription of an unidentified Persian manuscript and a collection of slides and photocopies of Oriental manuscripts. less

These files include correspondence, photographs of the Nikolais Dance Theatre dance performances, watercolor sketches of dancers, and programs. Gitelman's career development is represented to a lesser extent mainly through photographs, programs and writings.
