The collection contains correspondence, ephemera, publications, offprints of clinical studies, audio recordings, and other items documenting or commemorating the work of Timothy Leary, and a number of his associates and related entities, including the Castalia Foundation, Kriya Press, Freedom Center and Psychedelic Enterprises, and the house in Millbrook, New York, which served as Leary's main base of operations between 1963 and 1967. less

Joseph A. Sonnabend is a physician, laboratory scientist, clinical researcher, and community activist who contributed immeasurably to the fight against AIDS. As a pioneer in community-based research, he co-founded the AIDS Medical Foundation (later to become the American Foundation for AIDS Research, or amfAR) and the Community Research Initiative/Community Research Initiative on AIDS, as well as the PWA Health Group. In addition to creating community organizations, Dr. Sonnabend treated patients and conducted research into AIDS for the first twenty-three years of the epidemic in New York City, and helped create the first safe-sex guidelines. The Joseph A. Sonnabend Papers contain interviews, lectures, and press clippings; correspondence; published and near-print materials; legal case files and depositions; organizational records, clinical trial records, and grant applications and research proposals; scientific research, article drafts, charts, graphs, and notes; conference materials; and ephemera. The materials in this collection date from 1963 through 2004. less

The Typophiles is a not-for-profit educational association that encourages the appreciation and production of fine typography and bookmaking through lectures, meetings, and the production of fine examples of the printing arts. The collection, dating from 1908 to 2011, consists of the papers of Dr. Robert L. Leslie and the records he generated as a member and officer of the Typophiles. Included are Dr. Leslie's personal and professional papers, as well as records from his businesses, The Composing Room, the Gallery 303, and the Heritage of the Graphic Arts lecture series. The records reflect the book arts during what may be considered the golden age of fine printing. Significant individuals represented in the collection include Frederick W. Goudy, Warren Chappell, Bruce Rogers, Paul A. Bennett, Beatrice Warde, David Godine, Raymond Gid, Fernand Baudin, Roderick Stinehour, W.A. Dwiggins, Giovanni Mardersteig, and Hermann Zapf. less
