Woolf (then Virginia Stephen) was traveling in Greece at the time with her siblings Vanessa, Thoby, and Adrian Stephen. The letter conveys their shock and sorrow on learning of the death of Susan's sister, Margaret Massingberd of Gunby Hall, Lincolnshire.
