Alphonso H. Johnson, a Harlem resident, was a sleeping car porter with the Pullman Company and a member of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. The Alphonso H. Johnson Papers contain personal letters primarily from female friends who lived in Montreal and along the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S., and correspondence relating to his employment with the Pullman Company. There is also some documentation for the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. less
