Baron Edward de Lebzeltern-Collenbach was a member of the aristocratic Lebzeltern family of the Austrian Empire. His father, Francis, and uncle Louis were associates of Prince Metternich. Edward entered the diplomatic service in 1835 in London and then was transferred in 1844 to the Austrian legation in St. Petersburg, Russia. He was assigned to the Italian states of Parma and Modena in 1854 and then went to Lisbon in 1857. His daughter Marie married into the Portuguese aristocracy and his son Victor settled in the U.S. Collection contains correspondence, biographical essay, autograph album, and printed matter by and about members of the Lebzeltern family. Bulk of the correspondence consists of letters, 1834-1863, written by Edward to his father, providing an almost daily account of his activities while he was in London, St. Petersburg, Lisbon, and other European cities. Other correspondence, 1844-1925, includes letters written by various members of Edward's family. Also, essay on the life of Jacques Casanova, autograph album, death notices, and eulogies.
