The Jeannette Rankin Brigade (named in honor of the first woman to be elected to Congress) was a coalition of women's groups that demonstrated in Washington, D.C. on January 15, 1968 against the war in Vietnam. Leaders of the organization presented a petition asking Congress to end the war and arrange for the withdrawal of U.S. troops. Collection consists of materials relating to the Women's March for Peace in Washington. Records include correspondence, minutes of the steering committee, press releases, petitions to Congress, and reports of the political and legal action workshops. Also, minutes and press releases of the National Women's Emergency Coalition (the successor to the Jeannette Rankin Brigade); position papers on the Vietnam War by the National Council of Jewish Women, the YWCA and the Paris Conference of Women to End the War in Vietnam; and two scrapbooks of press clippings about Jeannette Rankin's activities.
