Anonymous fair copy sixty-one line poem, apparently unpublished, about a young woman named Fanny, forced by her family to work as a servant and seamstress at a vicarage; begins, "As you my dear friends have oft said was a pity / That a Girl like your Fanny so lively witty, / So form'd for to shine, at a Ball, or a Play, / By a Brother, and Aunt, shou'd be hurried away ...." The paper bears an armorial watermark of Britannia and a countermark of the letter "C" in a circle; paper with similar watermarks dates to the 1780's. less
