James De Lancey (1703-1760) served as chief justice of the Supreme Court of New York, and as lieutenant governor, and acting colonial governor of the Province of New York. The papers include charges brought against De Lancey in his capacity as chief justice of the Supreme Court of New York by "the Committee Upon the Administration of Justice," likely a response to the case of Crown v.
