Tailors Isaac Platt Hull (1813-1883) and his brother, Denney Hull, Jr. (1831-1900) were born in Danbury, Connecticut. They were descendants of George Hull, who emigrated from England to Dorchester, Massachusetts, in 1692. I.P. Hull & Company was located at 553 Broadway until roughly 1870, when it moved to 590 Broadway. The records consist of two ledgers containing customer orders and general accounting of the shop's financial activities. less

Ichabod Meeker, a native of Fairfield, Connecticut, was a farmer who settled in Catherine, New York. Account book kept by Ichabod Meeker from 1773 to 1834, containing a 1788 entry from Fairfield and an 1802 entry from Catherine. Elijah Meeker also used this account book from 1841 to 1863 less

Ida Husted Harper (1851-1931), American journalist and suffragist, was an associate and biographer of Susan B. Anthony and collaborated with Anthony on writing History of Woman Suffrage. Collection consists of scrapbook compiled by Harper with clippings of her articles relating to women's suffrage. Also included are clippings of articles about Harper's activities, and pamphlets and other printed materials relating to her suffrage work. Personal materials include a flyleaf dedicated to her by Susan B. Anthony. less

The Ignaz Anton Pilat Papers contain correspondence, official documents, newspaper clippings, booklets and pamphlets, and photographs and other graphics. The largest series is correspondence, chiefly between Pilat and other individuals involved in the construction of Central Park. There are manuscripts by Pilat describing the progress of work, as well as a letter from Frederick Law Olmsted detailing Pilat's gardening duties. Other original documents date from Pilat's residence in Austria and include a letter to Ferdinand I, in which Pilat requests the position of imperial gardener, certificates of employment and education, and Pilat's passport. The Ilka Chase Papers consist of correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, scripts, scrapbooks and other material related to the career of Ilka Chase. There is also considerable material related to the career of her mother, Edna Woolman Chase, and to "Vogue" magazine. There is a large amount of personal correspondence, especially between Ilka Chase and her mother. The collection also contains the entire run of scripts from a radio program hosted by Ilka Chase from January 1951 to October 1951 and a complete run of articles for a syndicated newspaper column from 1955 to 1964. Irving Van Wart kept this diary from November 3, 1854 through May 11, 1855. He was thirteen years old in 1854, when he began the diary, and he kept it on behalf of himself and his twin brother, Ames, at their home in New York City and country home in Craigville, New York. Entries describe their school work, drawing, music, sports, and other matters, as well as the social activities of their parents. The diary includes several references to Van Wart's great uncle, Washington Irving, mentioning his country home at Irvington, his 72nd birthday, and going to the opera with him less

Frank Weitenkampf (1866-1962) worked for the New York Public Library for 61 years. He started as a page at the Astor Library in 1881, became head of the NYPL Art Department, and served as Curator of Prints from 1921 until his retirement in 1942. Weitenkampf wrote several books and numerous articles on prints, was a print collector, and corresponded with artists and other collectors. Early in his career he used the pseudonym Frank Linston White. Collection consists of Weitenkampf's correspondence and his writings. Letters, spanning the years 1888-1962, include those received by Weitenkampf and drafts of his replies. A portion of the letters relates to Weitenkampf's official duties at NYPL. There are rarely more than a few letters from any one individual except for the following: Samuel P. Avery (1822-1904), a merchant and art collector; Edwin D. French (1851-1906), an engraver; and Julius J. Lankes (1884-1960), who was a printmaker specializing in woodcuts. The rest of the collection consists of Weitenkampf's own writings, both published and unpublished. Two of the manuscript works, Social History of the United States in Caricature and American Life in American Prints, are valuable for locating visual source material for American history. Living in One Man's Reading is a typed collection of quotations that appealed to Weitenkampf. Copies of his published works are all annotated by Weitenkampf with corrections or additions to the text. There is also an 8-volume scrapbook containing clippings of articles written by Weitenkampf, clippings mentioning him, and a few letters from editors concerning his articles. less

Franklin Hanford (1844-1928) was an American career naval officer. Upon his retirement in 1903, he became a farmer in Scottsville, N.Y. and pursued his interest in the history of western New York. Collection contains personal papers of Hanford and clippings and ephemera he collected. Personal papers include correspondence, circulars and notebook on chemistry and physics. Bulk of the collection consists of clippings and ephemera, 1884-1911, concerning life in western New York, particularly Livingston and Monroe counties and the towns of Scottsville and Rochester. less

Correspondence includes letters to Pierce's father, Benjamin Pierce, from both Franklin and other family members; and a letter from New York City mayor Fernando Wood. less

These pocket diaries (2 vols.) were kept in 1863 and 1865 by Franz or Francis Eder (born Benno Wohlgemuth, at Wolfsberg in Carinthia), during which time he served as a private in the U. S. Army, Company A and Company D, 119th Regiment, New York, Volunteers. Eder had enlisted in New York City on June 17, 1862 and was mustered out at Louisville, Kentucky on July 10, 1865.
