Scope and arrangement
This is a synthetic collection consisting of manuscripts, correspondence, and financial documents. The manuscripts include miscellaneous autograph material, as well as an essay by Leonard R. Valpy. The corrspondence includes letters from the author, dating from 1873 to 1912, to Sir Hall Caine, Pearl Mary Teresa Craigie, Ford Madox Ford, Grant Richards, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Algernon Charles Swinburne, T. Fisher Unwin, and others, as well as undated letters relating to the author from Dante Gabriel Rossetti to Fanny Schott. There are letters to Watts-Dunton from Mathilde Blind, Lady Mary Ashburnham Gordon, Francis Hindes Groome, Thomas Gordon Hake, Benjamin Jowett, John Westland Marston, Richard Herne Shepherd, Frederic J. Shields, George Barnett Smith, Alice Swinburne, Isabel Swinburne, Lady Jane Henrietta Swinburne, John S. Verschoyle, and others, dating from 1871 to 1914.
