Scope and arrangement
This is a synthetic collection consisting of typescripts and a manuscript, correspondence, an undated notebook, financial documents, and portraits. The typescripts include essays, stories, reviews, and drafts of novels, as well essays and other materials about the author. The correspondence includes letters from the author, dating from [1932] to 1978, to Kay Boyle, Frank Dobo, John H. Jenkins, Alfred Kazin, Frances Steloff, Carl Van Vechten, Ruth Witt-Diamant, and others. Also present are letters relating to the author, dating from 1935 to 1969, between various correspondents, including Bessie Breuer, Huntington Cairns, Archibald MacLeish, Frances Steloff, and others. There are letters to Miller from T. S. Eliot, Anaïs Nin, and others dating from 1939 to 1940.
