{"value"=>"<p>Research files consist of dozens of Books of Numbers with interview transcriptions and notes on secondary source research, including extensive inquiry into the development of the United States aeronautics and space programs. Research files also contain some copies of sources consulted, such as clippings and reports from NASA. Wolfe created an index and summary for the research files, which provide page references in the Books of Numbers and loose notes to subject discussions and quotations, as well as a calendar that outlines events depicted in the book chronologically. Sound recordings contain Wolfe's interviews with astronaut Edgar Mitchell and Rene Carpenter (wife of Mercury astronaut Scott Carpenter)—some of the only recordings Wolfe made of interviews in his career—as well as clips of onboard audio from NASA missions, speeches, and songs compiled by former NASA Administrator Tom Paine. Early Drafts and Culls track the expansion of the <span class=\"title\">Rolling Stone</span> article \"Post-Orbital Remorse\" into scenes and chapters in the book. Multiple late-stage versions of the manuscript show the thorough fact-checking process undertaken by Wolfe and FSG.</p>"}
