{"value"=>"<p>These additions to the records of the Environmental Action Coalition, 1970-1988, consist of Waste Management Program files 1980-1986, letters sent by Executive Director Nancy Wolf, 1986-1987, and a small amount of material regarding the publication of <em render=\"underline\">Eco-News</em>. 1977-86, tax and audit records, 1970-1977, and miscellaneous and unsorted papers, 1984-1988 and undated.</p> <p>The Waste Management Program files constitute the bulk of these additions. These files primarily document the EAC's participation in the establishment and implementation of recycling efforts in New York City. Included is correspondence of Program Directors James L. King, 1980-1983, and Ivan Braun, 1984-1985, and Recycling Coordinator Derrick Watson, 1982-1984. Significant among the files are a 1980 report on how to improve source separation in New York City, including surveys of recycling centers and market surveys of businesses which purchase or cart recycled material; volume reports from recycling centers, 1980-1983; 1984-85 Voluntary Recycling Centers planning grant files; and questionnaires completed during a 1986 survey of tenants of residential buildings participating the Newspaper Recycling Program directed by the EAC under contract to the New York City Department of Sanitation. The papers contain correspondence, meeting minutes, reports and conference papers documenting the EAC relationships with the New York City and State governments, schools, community groups, and environmental activist organizations. Included are the NYC Department of Sanitation, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, NYS Environmental Roundtable, and NYS Legislative Committee on Solid Waste, East Harlem Council for Community Improvement, and the Fieldston School. In addition to recycling, there are files on hazardous and toxic waste (including the joint project of the EAC and the NYC School of Applied Sciences to produce a toxic and hazardous waste directory), the NYS Returnable Container Law, and the proposal for a resource recovery plant at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.</p> <p>The papers also include a few files on resource recovery topics, 1971-1977, some loose unsorted papers, 1984-1988, and files of printed and near print material pertaining to a variety of environmental issues.</p>"}
