{"value"=>"<p>This subseries contains client files arranged in alphabetical order and represents the bulk of the collection. This subseries is divided into two sections: Main files and Miscellaneous files.</p> <p>The Main files appear to be the general files for the entire agency. When an agent's files became too large or beyond a certain date, they seem to have added their client files to the main author file. These files contain correspondence between agents and authors; correspondence between agents and publishers, periodicals, and others on behalf of authors; royalty statements and other financial material; requests for permission to republish works; correspondence regarding foreign rights; clippings and reviews; contracts; book covers; notes on conversations and about editing of works; manuscript cards (cards recording where and when stories were sent and whether they were returned or purchased); typescripts, some with notes and corrections; and other material.</p> <p>The Miscellaneous files contain later correspondence with authors requesting representation from Russell and Volkening and small client files.</p> <p>While this subseries contains some material dating from the tenure of Diarmuid Russell and Henry Volkening, the bulk of the material dates from Timothy Seldes' purchase of the company in 1972. The correspondence dating from 1972 on is mainly of a professional nature. While agents and authors still maintained close relationships, the later correspondence tends to be more professional than personal in nature.</p>"}
