{"value"=>"<p>Letters sent by William Lloyd Garrison are comprised of both personal letters and those regarding his abolitionist activities. Garrison often wrote to fellow abolitionists, such as a letter to Nathaniel Rogers regarding the situation of a runaway slave whom both men had aided and one to Phebe Jackson on an upcoming meeting of the American Anti-Slavery Society. There are letters coordinating his lecturing engagements and his journalistic activities, such as a letter to the publishers of the <span class=\"title\">World</span> on his inability to lecture due to poor health and one to William Hayes Ward on corrections for an article he wrote for the <span class=\"title\">Independent</span>. Garrison also wrote letters as a way of forging connections for friends and associates, introducing Parker Pillsbury to Henry Wigham, Jr., A.M. Safferty to Loring Lothrop and Edward Kyllmann to Judge Hugh L. Bond and Gilbert Pillsbury. There are letters to friends, such as Theodore Parker on his attendance at the funeral an aunt and to George Stearns thanking him for a bushel of pears. There are many letters to Edward Kyllmann giving news of the Garrison family, such as the Eastern Railroad Revere train wreck in 1871 in which his son, William Lloyd Garrison Jr., was seriously injure, the aftermath of the Great Boston Fire of 1872 and a dispirited letter on the paralysis and expected death of his daughter-in-law, Lucy McKim Garrison. There is one letter to his son Francis (Frank) Garrison that Garrison wrote with his daughter Helen (Fanny) Garrison Villard. Also included is a typescript copy of a letter he wrote to James Kirke Paulding on securing the release of his brother, James Holley Garrison, from the Navy due to his poor health and a copy of Paulding's reply.</p>"}
