{"value"=>"
There are four groupings of correspondence: Chronological, Incoming, Outgoing, and Alphabetical. Most of the letters by Leary from the 1980s onward are printed copies of letters he wrote on his computer, which he often signed and possibly faxed and retained for his files. Letters with particular individuals can be found in multiple groups (for instance, within chronological and alphabetical groups) and in other subseries (such as chronological or alphabetical files).

Chronological correspondence comprises a combination of previously unsorted letters, groups of correspondence foldered and named by Leary (e.g., business letters), and materially sorted roughly by Leary's friends and associates trying to organize his archives in the 1990s.

The correspondence is mostly incoming \"business letters.\" Letters by Leary as well as incoming letters sometimes have enclosures, such as writings. Correspondents include Tony Scott, Vicki Marshall, Eric Gardner, Joanna Harcourt-Smith, and Tom Robbins. Much of the business-related correspondence complements the other subseries, especially the Alphabetical Files and Chronological Files which, during certain periods, are comprised primarily of correspondence very similar in nature.

Incoming letters include holiday cards and a distinct assembly of fan mail. Fan mail, of which there is a discrete gathering here, is scattered throughout the papers. The Alphabetical correspondence is a mixture of personal and professional letters.

Letters previously separated as \"gems\" were either reintegrated within the correspondence or kept with Series VI.
"}
