{"value"=>"<p>The Later Project Files subseries documents the fund's projects from 1950 to 1996, which constitutes the period of greatest activity for the research program. The most complete project files in this subseries, dating from the 1970s to the 1990s, include the proposal, agreements between authors and program staff, correspondence throughout the project, manuscripts, peer review comments, editorial staff memoranda and correspondence, permission to publish quotations, and press releases. Many project files contain a folder called \"documentation,\" with clippings about the status of the project from staff reports to the board of trustees, trustee meeting minutes, and the fund's <span class=\"title\">Newsletter</span>. Project files that date prior to 1960 may only contain sporadic correspondence between fund staff and the author or research director, or the publication itself. Some published books and reports are also included, though infrequently for titles published after 1960. Projects that grew from initial staff explorations or were assigned to other authors after a contract was terminated are arranged together under the final author's name.</p> <p>Though most projects funded by the organization during this period were books, studies, short papers, seminars, and conferences, Later Project Files also document the fund's support of young organizations such as the Black Academy of Arts and Letters, the National News Council, and the International Baccalaureate diploma program. Also included are files for fund grants, which ended around 1970.</p> <p>While the majority of manuscripts in the subseries are typewritten, a small number of electronic drafts are available for projects dating between 1988 and 1992. Original photographs, negatives, slides, and contact sheets created for George Kimble's geography studies of North America and Africa are also included.</p> <p>Arranged alphabetically by author surname or project title.</p>"}
