Contracts often discuss the retention of intellectual property rights in the case of publication or project termination. Projects that were headed by multiple authors over different periods of time may have individual contract files for each author, while contracts for task force papers and committee reports are arranged under project title, so researchers should check all possible locations. Proposal files, the bulk of which date from 1990 to 1997, contain correspondence and proposed project descriptions that were either rejected by the fund or withdrawn by the author.
