{"value"=>"<p>The outgoing correspondence of Edward Stratemeyer and the Stratemeyer Syndicate spans the years 1905-1949. The letters focus on Stratemeyer's work as editor and salesman of material written by ghostwriters, and includes letters to authors, publishers and readers. In addition to professional and business correspondence, these subseries contain letters to relatives and friends regarding personal affairs, finances, charitable giving, and other non-professional matters. After Edward Stratemeyer's death in 1930, Syndicate correspondence was carried forward by Harriet Otis Smith, Harriet Stratemeyer Adams and Edna Stratemeyer Squier. For several years they maintained these chronologically arranged files, but eventually began a new subseries of alphabetically arranged Subject Files (described below as Subseries 1.6). The transition from one system to another resulted in some inconsistencies in the filing of letters dating from 1930-49. Readers interested in this period are advised to consult the Stratemeyer Syndicate outgoing files in conjunction with the Subject Files. Correspondence contained in boxes 20-31 is fragile and has been microfilmed; researchers must use the microfilm version of this material.</p>"}
