Stillé’s History of the United States Sanitary Commission, being the General Report of its Work during the War of the Rebellion (1866) and John S. Newberry’s The U.S. Sanitary Commission in the Valley of the Mississippi, during the War of the Rebellion, 1861-1866: Final Report of Dr. J.S. Newberry, Secretary Western Department (1871). The Historical Bureau also worked in collaboration with Benjamin A. Gould of the Statistical Bureau and members of the Medical Committee to produce two series, Sanitary Memoirs of the War of the Rebellion (1867, 1869) and Surgical Memoirs of the War of the Rebellion (1870, 1871). In addition, Henry A. Warriner and Frederick N. Knapp were appointed to write histories of the Commission’s supply system and special relief efforts, which were not completed (see Special Relief Archives).</p>"}
