Gives the history of the Mecklenburg County Committee, and the text of the resolutions asserted to have been passed at a meeting on May 19th; speaks of the sending of James Jack to Congress some days later with the resolutions; and of his return with the news that the proceedings were individually approved by the members of Congress, but were thought premature; subsequent proceedings of the County Court of Inquiry; trial of Booth and Dunn. In the handwriting of Dr. Joseph McKnitt Alexander, who has added the signature of John McK. Alexander and the following heading: \"Copy of J'o McK. Alexander's letter to Wm. Davidson on Declaration of Independence, Meck'g.\" This is followed by a statement that the foregoing is a true copy of the papers on the above subject left in his hands by \"J. Mc. A. deceased\"; that the original book was burned in April, 1800; and that one copy of the proceedings was sent to H. Williamson in New York, and one to Gen. Davie."}
