{"value"=>"<p>Copies of letters regarding claims prosecution sent to claimants, local agents, providers of evidence in claim applications, USSC personnel, clerks of court, and others, primarily written by Darius Forbes and W.F. Bascom. Augustus Forbes, General Agent Darius Forbes’s son and ANCA chief clerk, drafted some letters between April 1864 and August 1865, and was the sole author in September 1865, when Darius Forbes resigned. During Bascom’s term as General Agent, a few letters were written by M.P. Barry as acting chief clerk in October 1865, and many by C.W. Seaton after he became chief clerk in December 1865 through ANCA’s closure in April 1867. Between April 1867 and November 1867, many letters were signed by Seaton or as Bascom & Seaton, as the two men took charge of completing the prosecution of remaining open ANCA claims. Some letters have an ANCA claim number in the top right-hand corner. Each volume contains an alphabetical index to claimants and some recipients. ANCA staff assigned volume numbers to some, but not all, volumes in this group.</p>"}
