Orders for disinterments of bodies usually identify the person to whom the body was to be shipped. Special inquiry volumes are Hospital Directory records maintained by the Chattanooga agency. These document inquiries (applications) received from the Louisville Hospital Directory and others concerning the status of individual soldiers, and the agency's responses. Hospital records in three volumes contain lists of patients in general hospitals in Chattanooga and vicinity, copied from Army hospital reports in late 1864 and presumably created for Hospital Directory purposes.
