The bulk of the letters are administrative and business in nature, primarily between Herzfeld and other Lutheran bodies. In 1984 he received numerous letters congratulating him on his appointment as bishop of the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches. These were removed from a photograph album and arranged chronologically with the other correspondence. Only a few of the letters of this series are of a personal nature.</p>"}
