{"value"=>"<p>Arranged alphabetically by subject or division name. Records consist of brochures, charts, floor plans, incoming and outgoing letters, memoranda, newsclippings, notes, photographs, reports, and telephone logs. Most of the papers date from, 1955-1957. There are files on each of the divisions of the Reference Department, but the bulk of the material concerns the Preparation Division, and Special Collections. The records mainly document the acquisition and cataloging of books, manuscripts, and other materials for the Reference Library. They also pertain to the development of NYPL exhibits, space problems in the central library, and the opening of the new NYPL Annex, and provide information on the evolution of library automation technology. Information concerning the finances of the Reference Department can be found in the Central Administrative files (subseries A) described above.</p>"}
